I am currently busy practicing the new harp that the schola ordered based on a Spanish painting from 1390.  It as a double row of 14 strings and is quite a challenge to learn to play.  I was walking around the house practicing my saltarello when I noticed this view and couldn't resist a picture.  I wish a treal photographer had been there, but it's cool despite my lack of camera skills.  Can anyone explain why through the naked eye I could only see the main shadow, but the picture produced another?  I'm baffled.  Click on the photo for a larger image.

What a cool picture! How did you get your hands in there? The delay timer?

I know there's more than one reason you wish a real photographer had been there—one particular real photographer, that is.

Is it possible that your camera's flash went off unnoticed?

Cool picture. I liked the idea your mom came up with about the flash, but when I look at the image on the tile of the shower (which is the one I assume you are saying is the one you didn't see), it appears to be a refection rather than a shadow. It seems like I can see outside the window.

Could it have been the angle you were standing at vs. where the camera was when the picture was taken?

BTW, I like these short little blurbs you are doing.

Someone will be working on a thank you to your husband. He is THRILLED with the bottle caps. He has all of his bottle caps dumped on the floor behind the couch in the living room and has been working on sorting them. It's been about a week and he still has a looong way to go. Luckily they are behind the couch, so I can ignore them.

There is no flash in this picture. With the flash all you see is a while cupboard and no shadow, so the flash is not the cause of the apparition.

I posted that comment before I saw dstb's comment. I think she is right in the question about camera angle compared to my angle. I'm not quite sure how it works yet, but given that it's nearly midnight, further study tonight will probably not prove helpful.

I believe Aunt Sarah is right again. I would say the smaller image is a reflection - it seems to be in color.

The mystery is solved. It is indeed a reflection. At the right time in the morning I checked out the place in question and indeed, that spots reflects the light from the window. I couldn't see it setting up the camera because the door was shut behind me so I could access the camera, so of course it blocked the light and the image and from where I was standing for the picture, the reflection was hidden behind the cabinet. Thanks for playing!
