They say America is the land of the ready-made, and it might be true, but I don’t remember ever seeing pre-dyed Easter eggs, unless you count the plastic ones, but they have their own function: to hold chocolate. I haven’t asked a native, but it seems to me you can buy dyed eggs year-round. I have no idea why.
I think the colored eggs are already boiled and the color helps to keep them straight when they are in your fridge with non-boiled eggs.

Of course spinning the egg on its end would you give you some idea of its content. MMMMM....cookies...now that's an idea.
