A friend pointed her readers to an article entitled “Choose a career path that makes you scared of failure.”  You can read it here (it’s short).

It’s geared toward the businessman, but it gave me encouragement.  Going to Switzerland is my dip.  It’s down right scary.  My visa was approved today.  It’s really happening.  Moving across the ocean to study medieval music on instruments I have little experience with and with enough money to last six months is a pretty big dip from my perspective.  It’s not hopeless – I can see it paying off big dividends, but it could also end up being a very difficult time.  I’m in the Lord’s hands!

congratulations to your visa Janet! (although it's probably not a big deal to Americans.. you know it's always quite a pleasure to me whenever getting a visa to whatever country.. :P)
5 or 10 years from now, would you appreciate the DIP? If yes, then go for it without waiting even one second. Fear is only an emotional thing.. it's not factual most of the time. And, most importantly, you're in God's hands (as you said it yourself).

I'm a bit hesitant to embrace fear as the measure of my career plans. A dip is fine and exciting (in our sheltered first-world existences) when you're alone, but I can imagine a number of dips for myself that could potentially drag others into a dip they wouldn't want.
