We arrived and tumbled out of the car breathing in the wonderful smells and spontaneous erupting into yelps of joy. It is so wonderful to be here again. Enjoying the intense emotion and happiness I was experiencing I began to wonder how much of it is because this is a little heaven on earth and how much of it is because it is the little heaven on earth I grew up in. I cannot judge objectively and don’t know of a stranger would find the place so lovely. In any case, it’s glorious to me – especially with family waiting for us!
Today it is raining. Thus I’m not in the creek or on the beach and have time to sit in the Flounder doing computer stuff. It’s only our second day, so I’ll just write up a few random things.
An hour after we arrived at the Maggie P. I was in the creek. Ah! How refreshing. There’s a new toy: a plank of wood that looks like a raft that nobody’s been able to stay standing on for any length of time. I have two weeks to figure it out.
Noah is not comfortable with me yet. I blame the fact that first time he was in my arms I was in the creek and his mommy was on the deck.
Jonathan loves me and has told me so unsolicited a number of
times.
He’s also quite honest.
Aunt Janet: Do you still have all your baby teeth?
Jonathan: Yes.
AJ: May I see them?
Jonathan: big smile showing teeth
AJ: Very pretty.
Jonathan: Yeah, they’re not crooked like yours.
I suppose these days most people get braces for cosmetic reasons, but I saw what a pain it was for Heather to brush and floss her teeth with braces so when I was told I didn’t need them but could have them if I wanted straight teeth it was a nobrainer.
I decided to spend some pocket change. Here’s my new toy. Ain’t it purdy?
The bottom step of the catwalk broke and we got to observe the live barnacles. You can’t see the little critters, but it was cool to watch.
We went to a concert of The King’s Brass in Rhode Island last night and it was my first time on Rhode Island soil. It was enjoyable concert and I was surprised to meet one of my Eastman classmates there. She’s married too . . .
Noah takes a walk, though he does very well on his own. The Maggie P. is in the background.
Okay, whose is the car really?
I think maybe the best part of that last picture is your dad.
Amazing what you can do with PhotoShop and a Matchbox car, isn't it?
Is that a Ford GT or a Ford GT 40? Either way, good taste.
It's a Ford GT 2006. I'm impressed. See, I knew some readers on my blog would appreciate it.
I'll show you my car photo book sometime that I got as a roughly ten-year-old. You'll see why I recognized it.
Also, I'll have to have a closer look at those teeth sometime. I hadn't noticed them being crooked. And you should know that means something.
Is that book in German? I believe you tried to give it to me to improve my knowledge of German and cars. I didn’t even try to be polite when I refused it. It took seeing a GT with my own eyes to appreciate that cars can have beauty.
"Also, I'll have to have a closer look at those teeth sometime." Please don’t.
The next day:
Jonathan: You’ll have to wear a plastic thing like mommy when you get braces.
Aunt Janet: You mean a retainer? But I’m not getting braces!
Jonathan: But you have to!
Aunt Janet: Why?
Jonathan: I don’t want you with crooked teeth!
Aunt Janet: Why? Am I scary with crooked teeth? (Aunt Janet doesn’t know when to keep her mouth shut)
Jonathan: Yes.
Forget the makeup. I think I’ll just get a burka. Hey, that would save me the hassle of trying to disguise the sparseness of my wardrobe while overseas! PLUS I wouldn’t have to shop for clothes anymore!
lol. But just for perspective, do any of your teeth overlap (i.e. there are two teeth close to each other, and another directly *in front* of both)? Then you don't know what crooked is. Before I had braces, I couldn't eat a ham sandwich because my top and bottom incisors never contacted each other, so I couldn't sever the slice of ham. (I tended to just pull it out of the bread accidentally.)
Hi Janet!
Believe it or not, I just got updated on your blog from late June! I wanted to comment on just about every entry but wasn't sure if you'd get new comments on old entries or not.
Your entries were really a good read. Had me laughing out loud and also nodding in agreement and also feeling very touched... and my comments don't really do your entries justice.
Anyway, I mean to e-mail you soon but can't seem to connect to e-mail today. So aggravating.
Hope you are thoroughly enjoying time with family on the Maggie P. !
We need to chat or e-mail soon.
Love,
Sarah
p.s. why was I so silly about you posting pictures? post away! though I'm sure it's too late now. :(
p.p.s. I understood most of the German in yours and Tamino's post! JD helped me with the rest. yay!
p.p.p.s one more: you DID look beautiful, with makeup/nails and without. You are you.
Sorry this is so long!
Yes, that's the book. Some of the '80s cars are a bit malformed, but what the hey.
It'll be hard not to, unless I simply forget. But something, somewhere, sometime, will spark the memory... ;-)
Hi Sarah! Thanks for stopping by! I will be sure to post picture of your wedding up when I get a chance (i.e. when internet time is not rationed). There’s a nifty comment section to the right that shows any new comments, so you can comment to any post you would like and we’ll see it. I’d love to hear from you more!
It was always my job to make you laugh, I’m glad I can still do it. ;)
Never apologize for long comments. I love to get them! Especially if you say sweet things like you did. ;) I really did have fun with the whole makeup thing, I’m just so unused to it I’m still more comfortable without.
We’ll be in touch soon, though we left your apartment such a mess I’m sure it will take a long time before you’ve settled down. Congratulations again!
