I've just had time to recover from the busy weekend and I'm heading out again. In an hour I go to Luzern with Corinne. We'll enjoy the fastnacht there then spend the night at her mother's. I'm going to skip German class (times have changed since I had a hard time skipping college classes, though I was better than my mother, who never skipped-ever!) and enjoy a day in Luzern. Sadly, Sergio is back in Brasil, but that gives me an excuse to come to the city again after he returns. As if that weren't enough traveling the next week is off for Basel fastnacht. After two days of the festivities I'll skip the third (there's only so much druming and eating one can take) and probably head down to the Vaud region for scenic train rides and cheese factories. Apologies in advance if this schedule makes blog communication a bit scarce. I love you all!

I'm back safe and sound, and also happy! I feel the sun on my face, but you can't see it. Note to self: next time you spend four hours traveling over a lake and up a mountain, bring sunscreen and a hat! That wasn't the whole day either. I had a wonderful time in a very well put together transportation museum, saw an IMAX show on bears, went to a (I think catholic?) Ash Wednesday service in an amazing Baroque church building, ate a fancy dinner, and that's all on the day after my reason for going to Luzern. I'll give you details and pictures as soon as I can. Did you know you can get a Swiss army knife with a USB drive in it? Cheers!

Oh, you went to an Ash Wednesday service! I almost went to one in the Newark airport, but chickened out at the last minute, not sure how welcome I'd be crashing what was obviously a Catholic service. So I missed the Imposition of Ashes (though many, many people in the airport and among the flight crew managed to accomplish that). On the other hand, a day that goes from 4:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. with most of that time spent either to, from, or in airports, makes for a pretty good fast. :) Let's see: one banana (thanks to Prudence), a small handful of pretzels and a cup of tea (first flight), and a cup of spicy tomato juice (second flight). There was plenty of time to eat while waiting in the airports, but I wasn't hungry enough to make the airport food/prices attractive. (Though Newark isn't bad -- best for selection and prices I've seen yet.) I just wish I'd had enough of an appetite at 5 a.m. to enjoy another glass of the delicious raw milk we'd bought the day before!
Well, I can tell I need something more to drink, but first I'm taking a well-deserved shower. The last leg (walk from bus stop to home) was a bit on the warm side, what with temperatures well into the 70's and me with a backpack, a suitcase, and a heavy winter coat.... :) Glad you had a good time -- looking forward to details.
